IBM to host Middle East summit on SOA benefits

IT giant prepares to gather executives and CIOs in Dubai to discuss role of Service Oriented Architecture technology inside organisations

The business and technology benefits of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are poised to be hotly debated by leading experts at an SOA Executive Summit held by IBM later this month.

The one-day event, which is being hosted in Dubai on November 19th, will see CIOs and high level business and technology leaders meet IBM executives from around the world to discuss the impact of SOA on businesses.

IBM’s customers will also be on hand to share their experiences of SOA and explain how it changed their business operations to become more efficient, effective and collaborative.

“The SOA Executive Summit aims at sharing strong viewpoints and presenting a truly strategic forward path with the Middle East’s leading technology users by gathering our top customers in the ME and a really strong executive team from IBM’s EMEA and worldwide operations,” said Takreem El-Tohamy, general manager at IBM Middle East, Egypt, and Pakistan.

The focus of the summit will be on a number of key topics around the issue of SOA including the use of business process management to exploit the benefits of a standardsbased SOA and the preparation of dependable IT infrastructures through security, management and virtualisation.

It will also explore the subjects of SOA governance and assess how SOA can be enhanced by new technologies such as Web 2.0.

In a recent survey, IBM's Institute for Business Values Study revealed that 92% of IBM SOA customers found that cost reduction was the initial justification for initiating an SOA project and that, on average, customers realised 51% revenue growth as a result of an SOA strategy.

The study came on the side of the launch of the largest ever line-up of new software and services for building and expanding a service oriented architecture.

“SOA is a major shift in technology that will continue to impact businesses as today’s competitive climate requires companies to adapt immediately to changing market and be more agile to meet the continuously growing demands of businesses.” said El- Tohamy.

“IBM leads the way in this transformation with a clear vision in both SOA strategies and solutions and will demonstrate on SOA implementations in the Middle East and debate around questions facing today’s technology users.”
