Microsoft appeals against its EU fine
Microsoft has filed an appeal against the US$357.3million fine handed down to it in July by the European Commission for failing to comply with a 2004 antitrust ruling ordering the software giant to make adequate technical information about its Windows operating system (OS) available to competitors.
“As Microsoft said in July, we would appeal the fines imposed on the company as that deadline for the appeal was October 2,” said a company spokesperson.
The US$357.3million came on top of the record US$613million Microsoft was fined by the Commission in the 2004 case for abusing its dominant market position.
The giant has already appealed against the 2004 decision at the Court of First Instance, the EU’s second highest court, and it is expected the court will rule on the case this year or early next year.
