Smart home boom in UAE

THE UAE’S consumer electronics and household appliance sector will enjoy double-digit annual growth over the next three years due to booming consumer demand for new convergence products and networked household appliances.

The estimates follow a recent report from AC Nielsen that predicted the consumer markets of the Middle East to be worth a combined total of US$500 billion by 2010.

Dubai’s remarkable economic growth and booming freehold property market have generated unprecedented demand for new CE products, claimed Ashish Panjabi, COO of Jacky’s Electronics.

“New homeowners are demanding higher quality appliances, which is stimulating demand in the premium product categories,” he said.

Another important consideration is the accelerated development of new digital technologies and their impact on consumer demand, Panjabi explained.

“With next-generation DVD players being launched this year and the possibility of high definition television services commencing in 2007, demand for HD-ready products such as LCD and plasma TVs should also boom,” he added.

Demand for ‘smart home’ appliances is also booming, with new retailers such as EON Smart Homes providing a range of home networking solutions to UAE consumers.
