IPTV subscribers in line for growth

The number of worldwide subscribers to IPTV is set to reach 68.9 million by 2009, according to market research company Infonetics. Subscriber numbers will more than double each year over the next three years to hit the target, the firm said.

“IPTV is still in the ‘kick the tyre’ phase, with service providers doing trials rather than mass deployments, but there's no question that IPTV is going mainstream,” Jeff Heynen, author of a report into IPTV, said.

Sales of IPTV equipment are set to skyrocket from US$371million to US$6.8 billion between 2005 and 2009, the report added.
