Wipro to drive RTA’s full IT infrastructure
THE UAE’S Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has outsourced the management of its entire IT infrastructure to Indian service provider Wipro.
The RTA’s infrastructure will be hosted at a new near-shore network operating centre (NOC) that Wipro has set-up recently in Dubai Internet City (DIC) to service the Gulf region.
The facility — known as a Global Service Management Centre (GSMC) — is connected to the Indian firm’s centres in its home country and will offer services such as 24/7 service desk, proactive monitoring and administration services for IT infrastructure and applications.
Wipro will provide service level agreement (SLA)-based services to manage the RTA’s IT infrastructure including networks, servers, databases, web services and desktops, as well as providing 24/7 service desk support. The cost of the GSMC and the value of the deal with the RTA were not disclosed.
“We are delighted to select Wipro as our managed services partner. Wipro’s service-delivery model based on a nearshore NOC based in Dubai Internet City was very attractive,” said Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, IT executive director of the RTA.
Suresh Vaswani, president of Wipro Infotech, the IT division of Wipro, said the centre had been set up to meet growing demand in the Middle East for managed services.
“We are seeing increased demand for managing business critical applications and 24/ 7 IT operations from customers in the region. Regional organisations are going global and they require round-the-clock IT operations. The GSMC has been created to cater to these critical needs,” explained Vaswani.
“The establishment of Wipro’s GSMC reiterates our commitment to customers in the region. This integrated service-delivery framework which leverages Wipro’s globally- acknowledged delivery capabilities has substantial advantages over traditional models in terms of service manageability, predictability, reliability and responsiveness,” he added. Wipro said customers would benefit from process-based service delivery, access to Wipro’s best practices in service management, round-theclock operations, a bilingual service desk and near-shore access to technical resources.
“Wipro’s new facility is yet another example of the regional success of leading global IT companies based in the DIC community,” said Jamal Abdulsalam, executive director of DIC.
