Thin clients add weight in EMEA

The thin client market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) shot up 22% in the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2005, according to market research firm IDC.

The market was down slightly in the second quarter compared to Q1 of this year, but this did not dent strong positive growth the thin client sector experienced during the first six months of 2006.

“While the second quarter was slower than anticipated the thin client market continues to grow strongly, especially when compared to the commercial desktop,” commented Chris Ingle, group consultant for IDC EMEA systems.

IDC figures showed thin client specialist Wyse leading the EMEA market in H106, followed by HP and Neoware respectively. Zebra debuts KDU keyboard display

Printing vendor Zebra Technologies has introduced a new keyboard display unit called KDU Plus for use with Zebra thermal printers.

The solution allows users to generate and customise labels utilising pre-defined formats without the need for a dedicated computer.

The standalone accessory works with thermal printers running EPL or ZPL printer languages, and has built-in memory to store and transfer files.

It features larger sized keyboard and keys, an enhanced digital display, more auxiliary ports than the previous model, firmware upgradeability and four operational modes.LG launches first Blu-ray HD PCs
