Redback to provide Jordan with an edge

Jordan Telecom has chosen multi-service edge routers from US-based Redback Networks’s to deliver broadband internet access to its business and residential users.

The telecoms operator, a subsidiary of France Telecom, will deploy the broadband network systems provider’s multi-service routing platform to provide high-speed internet access, voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and future IPTV services.

Jordan Telecom said it opted for the system from Redback because of its solid reputation.

“We needed a proven platform that could scale our next-generation network and provide a smooth migration from ATM to ethernet transport and advanced IP services,” said Yanal Abzack, director, IP Architecture and Data Core Networks at Jordan Telecom.

“We believe that the combination of subscriber management and edge routing will enable us to deliver advanced broadband services to our growing customer base.”

The telecom operator registered an estimated 1.4 million fixed and mobile subscribers in 2005.

“We are very pleased that Jordan Telecom has selected Redback,” commented Magnus Almquist, vice president of sales and operations at Redback Networks for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

“We are excited that Jordan Telecom shares Redback’s vision of a single IP network for high-demand data, voice and video services.”

“Over time, we see a future where all communications services will be managed in harmony under a single IP infrastructure,” he added.

Redback said that its SmartEdge multi-service edge routers are currently deployed by 11 of the top Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) carriers worldwide who use the system to deliver various broadband services to millions of business and residential customers around the world.

These include British Telecom, Belgacom, Bell South, China Telecom, Chunghwa Telecom, France Telecom and Turk Telecom, among others.
