Wataniya Int CEO quits to establish company

Ahmad Haleem has stepped down as chief executive of Wataniya International to pursue other interests, the company confirmed last week.

Ahmad Haleem has stepped down as chief executive of Wataniya International to pursue other interests, the company confirmed last week.

Haleem told IT Weekly sister title CommsMEA that he was leaving the company, which is a subsidiary of Wataniya Telecom, to pursue other options and planned to establish his own company.

"About a year ago I started thinking what next in terms of my career and the direction I was taking," Haleem said.

"Like many expatriates I was on a renewable contract, and the latest term expired at the end of March so I thought this may be a good time for me to change direction, step back and take another look at my situation," he added.

Haleem said he planned to set up his own company with another departing member of Wataniya International, Sylvie Scott, who was chief commercial officer at the firm.

Haleem said the planned company would look at various investment opportunities in the region, not just those related to telecommunications. "We plan to identify opportunities, pursue them, make them happen and create value in so doing," he said. Wataniya has still to name Haleem's replacement.
