Batelco deal halts strike action
Middle East telco manages to avert immediate strike action over pay but threat remains.
Strike action by Batelco Trade Union has been averted after a series of deals were struck between the union and the telco.
The union had voted last week to go ahead with a demonstration after a meeting held on April 6, but had not fixed a date for the industrial action. The strike has been "put on hold" a source close to the union told IT Weekly although the same source said there were still issues to be resolved.
The Labour Ministry this week announced an agreement between the operator and the union for a 15% pay rise from this month for some of the lowest paid Batelco staff.
The union had been campaigning for a 25% increase in pay packages.
