UAE University is gearing up to go live with a Luminus portal from higher education solutions provider SunGard.

The Al Ain-based university is set to go live with the portal in the next 30 days, the university's chief financing planning officer Abdul Nasser told IT Weekly.

The portal, which took six months to implement at a cost of around US$3.95million, will serve as a gateway to university systems for staff and students.

The university has already implemented SunGard's Banner HR and Finance solutions, which went live in January.

The systems replaced home grown, standalone systems, which were inconvenient as data had to be entered on several different databases, Nasser said.

"The information is available on people's desktops, we don't have to call someone to find the information [any more], people don't have to push paper to get approval, everything can be found online. Before this we had to do a whole lot by paper and by calling people," Nasser said.
