Tech Data: job cuts are definite

Exit from the regional market will lead to some of its 86 staff being axed, says ME boss.

Tech Data's exit from the regional market will lead to some of its 86 staff being axed, its Middle East boss has admitted.

The distributor has transferred the bulk of its operations to rival Aptec, which has said it will take on around 60 Tech Data staff.

While Tech Data will offer some of the remaining staff jobs in its operations in Europe and elsewhere, others will be made redundant, Hanspeter Eiselt, managing director of Tech Data Middle East told IT Weekly last week. He declined to comment on how many staff would be made redundant, claiming the firm is "still in the transition process". Eiselt said any staff being made redundant would be offered support through an outplacement service.
