'I want to work for du', say locals
'Emiratisation' drive sees the UAE telecoms operator receive a record number of job applications.
du, the UAE's new telecom operator, claims that it received a record 4,400 applications from visitors to its stand at a careers fair last week.
Over 72 candidates were interviewed at the du stand, for positions in du retail shops and call centres. More than 252 online applications were received via the workstations at the stand.
Fahad Al Hassawi, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, said "Our participation in Careers UAE 2007 has brought us closer to our goal of increasing the number of nationals in our workforce. Our participation provides us with new insights which will assist us in constantly updating our Emiratisation programme."
"The visitors were also pleased with the cooperation extended by the du staff in answering their queries. The large number of applications is an indication of the increasing number of UAE nationals who are keen on joining du," he added.
The applications will be assessed and channelled through four avenues at du, depending on the level of experience and qualification. Those with the necessary experience and qualification will be covered by the Direct Entry schemes for general recruitment as Sales Executives and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs).
Fresh graduates and those with the necessary qualifications but not the experience to be Sales Executives and CSRs will fall under du's Graduate Training Programme and Development Plan "Masar", which is structured to ensure jobs for nationals with varying educational backgrounds, from high school to post graduate degrees.
du will also be participating in the 6th Training & Employment Week organised by the UAE University in Al Ain, from the 26-28 Mar 2007.
