BREAKING NEWS :

RSA tech included in Symmetrix line

By ITP.net staff writer on Saturday, February 17, 2007

Storage giant EMC has begun to integrate products from its 2006 acquisition of RSA Security into its enterprise portfolio, the company said last week.

The move was announced at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, US, and is part of EMC's ‘information-centric security' roadmap, where security is bound to the information and the people that use it, rather than perimeter-based security.

"It is time to re-focus information security - away from the perimeter and onto the information itself - in order to provide customers with the confidence that their assets, brands and end-users are protected and to free them up to realise new business possibilities," commented Art Coviello, president of the RSA division of EMC.

The first product integration to be unveiled is the incorporation of RSA's SecurID two-factor authentication with EMC's Symmetrix DMX-3 enterprise storage platform - the pair's flagship offerings.

Security features now available on DMX-3 systems include Symmetrix Service Credential, Tamper-proof Audit Log and EMC Certified Data Erasure.

The Symmetrix Service Credential, secured by RSA, requires authentication of users accessing the Symmetrix service processor using encrypted credentials and individual passwords.

The Tamper-proof Audit Log data allows data centre managers and administrators to securely record and track all service and management activities, while EMC Certified Data Erasure electronically shreds information on failed drives or that is no longer required.
