Microsoft has decided to scrap its initial plan to restrict downloads of its Windows 7 release to the public.

Initially announcing that only 2.5 million downloads would be permissible, the company has now decided to offer unlimited copies to all until January 24, 2009, in response to overwhelming demand.

Interest is running high surrounding the latest OS from Microsoft, and there are already several complaints from beta customers posted on the Windows 7 forum.

One user believed that forcing Internet Explorer as the download platform would prevent new Windows users from running the beta, while another user complained that the OS often froze.

The Windows blog team addressed feedback positively, commenting that “…this is a beta product. We are working hard to get Windows 7 ready and right. Your input is a critical part of that process.”
