Aetna has been chosen by the Dubai Health Authority to provide management services that will support a new government-sponsored healthcare system for city residents. It is one of only two healthcare management companies that have been appointed to offer their support to outpatient care practices (OCPs). Presently, the Dubai Government provides specific health programs for residents but, as part of the new system, every person must register with an OCP to receive basic medical services.
Aetna, in partnership with Gateway Healthcare, will provide administrative and financial services to OCPs. Additionally, value-added services such as the management and flow of funds, negotiation of arrangements with hospitals, and development of disease management programs will also be offered.
Around 300 to 500 clinics are expected to join the system when it goes live in January next year.
“Our goal is to help create a primary care-focused health care system in Dubai dedicated to providing comprehensive individual-centered care,” said Martha Temple, president of Aetna Global Benefits, the company’s international division that coordinated the agreement with the Dubai Health Authority.
“We will work consultatively and collaboratively with the independent outpatient care practices, Dubai Health Authority and other stakeholders to develop an appropriate and targeted plan that will meet the needs of the people of Dubai,” added Temple.
