Info2cell.com signs agreement with Thuraya

As part of the new agreement, Info2cell.com will provide Thuraya customers with a WAP portal that will offer a broad range of SMS-based applications and content services.

The portal, which acts as a micro-site, will bring the latest news, weather reports and stock information to Thuraya handsets. Subscribers can even download ringtones, wallpapers and games that have been specially created for Thuraya handsets.

In addition, Info2cell.com will also provide a new customer care application to Thuraya that will enhance the quality of service offered to its subscriber base.

“This agreement with Thuraya represents another important milestone for Info2cell.com as we would now be extending our services to a new segment of customers; a substantial percentage of Thuraya’s subscribers are located in remote areas that are usually beyond the reach of the GSM network,” said Bashar Dahabra, founder and CEO of Info2cell.com.

Under the agreement, the Thuraya SG-2520 will be the first satellite handset to provide WAP services. “We have the smallest and smartest phones and now users of Thuraya phones will have the world at their fingertips, allowing the Thuraya hand-held experience to be unique, dynamic and interactive. In an information-based age we are excited to be the first providers of WAP in the MSS world,” added Thuraya’s CEO Yousuf Al Sayed.
