MADA begins Jordan WiMAX roll out

By Mark Sutton on Thursday, November 27, 2008

MADA Communications has begun the roll out of its Motorola-based WiMAX network in Jordan, with the aim of launching services by the end of this year.

MADA plans to offer fixed and roaming voice and data services to residential and enterprise customers in Jordan through the 802.16e WiMAX network.

The network will be based on Motorola’s WAP 400 and WAP 800 wireless access points, and also includes the WiMAX Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway to connect the WiMAX network to a common IP core.

Motorola will also supply the customer premises equipment (CPE) in the form of its indoor CPEi 750, outdoor CPEo 400, and USBw 100.

Charles Hage, managing director of MADA said: “WiMAX is changing the way the telecommunications industry connects people. By untethering the broadband connection, WiMAX enables us to deliver voice and data services wherever our customers want. Motorola’s technical expertise, backed by its global WiMAX deployment experience ensures we will be able to offer the Jordanian public compelling new services.”

Motorola Global Services, which has designed and planned the network and will also provide optimization services, have also included a wholesale model of operations in MADA’s network, that will allow the company to sell WiMAX services to other ISPs in Jordan, creating an additional revenue stream.

Ali Amer, vice president sales, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility said: “Motorola’s WiMAX solution will bring one big, ‘never-ending’ hot spot to Jordan, accelerating the delivery of personal media experiences to Mada’s customers, whether they are at home, in the office or on the move.”
