Delivering smart data

By ITP.net staff writer on Sunday, September 28, 2008

Emirates Computers will showcase its 'SMART Data Centre' technologies as part of its Smart Living Solutions at GITEX Technology Week.

The SMART data centres include ‘smart living' features such as connectivity, interactivity, security and intelligence, and are based on eco-friendly and sustainable technologies.

Visitors to Emirates Computers' stand can explore the SMART data centre in a live environment and experience the related features and functionalities that define it, in addition to observing several applications and business solutions running on the data centre platform.

Technologies will include power systems, cooling, structured cabling, security, access control, servers, unified communications, virtual infrastructure and NOCs, in addition to business applications from various partners.

Outlining the company's strategy for this year's show, Khaldoun Shamaa, head of Business Development and Marketing at Emirates Computers, says: "We are participating in a much bigger way at GITEX this year as it is our 30th year of being in business.

GITEX is a perfect forum for us to promote our solutions, meet our customers and partners and explore new business opportunities. We plan to launch new products and solutions from our vendor partners. Visitors will be able to experience the latest technology solutions and enabling services for our SMART data centres."

Shamaa says the solutions displayed by Emirates Computers at GITEX will include energy saving equipment, low emission products, lead-free devices, and products with recyclable components.

The company will also showcase a variety of infrastructure components such as routers, load balancing solutions, and network optimisers from Cisco, servers and storage devices from Dell and thin clients from Sun Microsystems.

It also plans to demonstrate an array of products from vendors such as VMWare, CA, Documentum, Oracle and other bespoke applications.

"According to research firm, IDC, IT spending in the Middle East and Africa will reach US$40 billion in 2008 and the Gulf countries will account for nearly 23% of that total. This represents a huge market and we want to be at the forefront of developments. GITEX is an ideal platform to showcase our latest products, solutions and services," concludes Shamaa.
