HP has kept its promise of appointing an in-country manager to run its Personal Systems Group in Egypt with the appointment of Rania Mattar, a former country manager at distributor Redington and channel sales chief at Intel.

Back in April, Middle East PSG boss Serdar Urcar — who is moving to a new position as managing director of HP’s Turkish operation this month — told Channel Middle East that he was searching for a first-ever PSG head in Egypt to exploit the market’s potential. “It is obviously due to the size and scale of the country and the opportunity that it affords,” he explained at the time.

HP is tasking Mattar, who will be based in Cairo, with the job of promoting the HP brand and growing the channel community in Egypt and the Levant.

Her experience of HP spans six years, during which time she has worked as the local enterprise server and storage lead and account manager for the vendor’s printing business.

“This is the first time we have introduced a country manager for Egypt and Levant, signifying our commitment to these countries and our determination to meet our customers’ and partners’ ever changing needs and requirements,” said Urcar, who has previously stated that Egypt accounts for around 6% of HP’s Middle East revenues.

Mattar vows that one of her first priorities will be to touch base with HP’s major partners as she settles into the new role. “Over the next six months, I will be heavily involved with all key partners and will be working towards making HP PSG even stronger in the Levant region,” she said.

Diskettes are ancient history, and while re-writeable CDs and DVDs offer space and convenience when it comes to data transfers, you can’t beat a high-capacity flash drive for outright ease-of-use.
