Chrome grabs one percent of market in 24 hours

Google’s Chrome browser has grabbed one percent market share within its first day of availability.

The browser, which was released as a beta version on Tuesday, gained 1% of the browser market, according to net analysis companies StatCounter and NetApplications.

The rapid gain pushed Chrome past established, full product browsers Opera and Netscape, with market watchers predicting that Chrome could stand to impact on Firefox’ market share.

Aodhan Cullen, CEO of StatCounter said in a blog posting: “This is a phenomenal performance. This is war on Microsoft but the big loser could be Firefox.”

StatCounter said that Firefox potentially has more to lose to Chrome, as Firefox users are more likely to change browsers and to be interested in trying out browser technology.StatCounter’s analysis was conducted on Wednesday 3rd September, monitoring 18.5 million page views globally. StatCounter gave Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 70% of the global browser market and Firefox 22%.
