BREAKING NEWS :

i2 launches charity program with UNICEF

By Mark Sutton on Wednesday, September 03, 2008

Mobile phone retailer i2 has announced a new charitable initiative for the month of Ramadan.

The retailer will donate $1 for every handset sold to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), for the next six months.

The initiative, which will run in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, Tunisia, Iraq and Sudan, will aim to fund medicine, clean water and food for children in the MEA region.

Abdul Hameed Al Sunaid. CEO of i2 commented: “We are happy to be partnering with UNICEF for the second year in a row, this time extending the program to six months. UNICEF works tirelessly to provide the necessary assistance to children around the world and to ensure all children's rights are fulfilled, guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and i2 is honored to be part of this grand endeavor.”

i2 ran a similar promotion for Ramadan last year, raising $100,000 in the process.

“Every year, millions of children die from totally preventable causes and these innocent lives can be saved by cost-effective interventions. We are grateful for the continuous support of a dedicated partner like i2 and we look forward to build on last year’s success, said Dr. Ayman Abu Laban, UNICEF Representative in the Gulf.
