A secretary has been sentenced to three months in jail after hacking into a United Nations employee’s private email account and threatening to blackmail her.

The 24 year old Egyptian, identified only as MN, was the secretary of the Emarati victim who is employed at the United Nations office in Abu Dhabi. He will be deported after serving his sentence, according to the Gulf News.

The hacker broke into his boss' Yahoo email account, downloaded a number of files and then changed the password on the account so that his boss could not access the account.

A threatening email sent by the hacker read: “I took your mail, saved your picture and other files... you have two days until Saturday night to reply to me...”

The victim contacted her email service provider to reset her password after she realized her account had been hacked. She was later informed by Dubai that large amounts of her private files and documents were compromised.

According to a Dubai police spokesperson, the hacker was eventually tracked down through the IP address that he used to access the account.

The case, which has been with the courts for almost a year now, has finally come to a close with the ruling announced earlier this week.
