Oman is offering a 25 year renewable contract for fixed-line services

Edging closer to the end of Omantel's monopoly, six bidders have been shortlisted in an effort to select Oman's second fixed-line telecommunications network, Qatar’s The Peninsula has reported.

The country is offering a 25 year renewable contract to build and operate the second fixed-line service, and a similar 15 year contact for broadband internet services.

Ten bids were initially submitted and the Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has now narrowed that choice down to six.

While the names of the contending firms have not been disclosed, an announcement is expected to be made as early as next month.
