In a collaboration initiative by Microsoft Gulf, Intel and DTK Computer, a new netbook - the DTK eBook i10 - has been launched in the Middle East.

Priced at approximately AED 1,830 and weighing just 1.2 kilos, the netbook is aimed primarily at the education, government and telecommunication sectors.

Reflecting Microsoft’s dominance in the region’s education sector, Charbel Fakhoury, general manager, Microsoft Gulf said that the DTK eBook i10 “is an exciting new platform designed to meet the needs of today's students and sets the stage for the vision of one-to-one computing.”

Using an Intel Atom N 270 processor (1.6 Ghz) and supporting the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System, Samir Al Schamma, Intel’s general manager in the GCC, believes the netbook reflects “maximum performance for a minimum price.”

It features an integrated 1.3 megapixel web camera and stereo speakers, a 10.2 inch LCD screen, and supports WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The DTK eBook i10 comes with a one year warranty and, in an apparent reflection of the growing demand for quality support in the region, Nimer Al Attal, managing director of DTK Computer Middle East confirmed that a new factory-standard service centre owned by the company will be launched during Gitex 2008.
