BREAKING NEWS :

PlayStation store to offer video downloads

By Jason Saundalkar on Monday, June 30, 2008

Sony's president and group chief executive officer, Kazuo Hirai, has said that his company will be adding downloadable, paid-for, full-length movies to its online PlayStation Store service.

A detailed announcement will likely be made in July, possibly at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

The PlayStation Store is an online service which gamers who own Sony's PlaytStation 3 gaming console can access via the PlayStation Network. The service is similar to that of Microsoft's Xbox ‘Live Marketplace'.

Presently, Sony's online service allows users to download wallpapers, game audio tracks, movie and game trailers, music videos, game demos and more. Microsoft's Live service offers these though it already offers paid for content such as Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) TV shows and movies.

Sony's PlayStation Store will initially offer only movies though TV show downloads are also planned for.
