BREAKING NEWS :

Intel fined by South Korea for unfair practices

By Mark Sutton on Friday, June 06, 2008

Intel has been fined 26 billion won ($25.4 million) by the South Korean Fair Trade Commission, for violating fair trade rules.

The commission found that Intel had offered rebates to Samsung Electronics and fellow Korean computer manufacturer Trigem Computer if they would stop using chips from rival AMD.

Intel has said that it will consider appealing the ruling, once the ruling is officially notified in 30 - 60 days time.

Bruce Sewell, senior VP and general counsel for Intel said: "We're disappointed and we completely disagree with the findings."

Intel is also under investigation by the European Commission and by authorities in New York for unfair practices.
