Tawam Hospital spearheads hospital link-up

Tawam Hospital in the UAE has completed implementing a range of systems from healthcare IT specialist Cerner. The system, Cerner Millennium, is expected to eventually link all fourteen hospitals in Abu Dhabi owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services company.

Tawam Hospital is a 468-bed tertiary care facility based in Al-Ain. The Cerner Millennium system is intended to automate processes in the radiology, pathology, pharmacy, surgery, emergency, and scheduling and registration departments. In addition to Tawam Hospital, four hospitals and twelve clinics in Abu Dhabi will implement Cerner systems by the close of 2009, in an effort to create unified electronic medical records for healthcare facilities throughout the region.

John Hawkins, SEHA's information and technology director commented on the implementation: "The implementation of the Cerner Millennium solutions throughout will transform the way healthcare is provided in Abu Dhabi, to match the latest international standards. By automating our processes with the Cerner Millennium system, our clinicians are able to access a single patient record for Tawam Hospital, and soon, for all SEHA hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi."
