Pankaj Chawla has been appointed as chief operating officer with responsibility for the Middle East, Africa, Russia and CIS

Enterprise software vendor 3i Infotech has strengthened its senior management set-up in the region by naming Pankaj Chawla as its chief operating officer.

Chawla will be responsible for overseeing proceedings in the ‘MEARC' region, which the company classifies as the Middle East, Africa, Russia and CIS.

His experience in the enterprise software and systems integration arenas is likely to come in handy for 3i Infotech as it expands its business in a number of emerging markets.

As well as working for Satyam Computers, Chawla served as the managing director for IT services provider LogicaCMG's South Asian operation.

Chawla believes his new employers are well placed to capitalise on current growth trends in the software market. "We have a high performance team in the region, backed by dedicated teams in our various global development centres in India," he said. "This combination provides a unique proposition in this market, combining high quality products and services with a cost effective solution for the customer."
