BREAKING NEWS :

Dell upgrades PowerEdge servers with AMD Quad-core chipsets

By Quintin Smith on Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Dell has announced that the company’s range of PowerEdge servers will be receiving AMD’s new Quad-core Opteron processors, allowing them to deliver 79% better performance than the same servers running on Dual-core Opterons.

The PowerEdge SC1435, 2970, M605 and 6950 platforms will all be receiving the new chips.

Additionally, Dell is expanding the PowerEdge server line with the new (Quad-core Opteron powered) T605 tower server, a unit which achieves 23% better performance than an HP ProLiant ML350 G5. Dell says the tower is aimed at SMBs and remote locations and features redundant power supplies, hot plug hard drives and remote management features.

Eric Velfre, Director, Enterprise Marketing, Dell EMEA said: “Our PowerEdge servers deliver on Dell’s commitment to simplify IT by providing customers with a seamless and simple upgrade path to quad-core, making it easier and quicker for them to realise the benefits of these advanced processors. Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors running on Dell PowerEdge servers delivers the right balance of performance, energy efficiency and price for customers while helping to accelerate our vision of scale-out computing in the enterprise.”
