BREAKING NEWS :

McAfee launches international S.P.A.M. experiment

By Quintin Smith on Monday, April 14, 2008

McAfee today launched its S.P.A.M. experiment, which will involve fifty volunteers from all walks of life having internet access for thirty days without any kind of spam protection at all.

S.P.A.M. stands for Spammed Persistently All Month, and the participants will be blogging about the experience on the experiment’s official site. The decidedly international participants come from Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the USA.

It’s hoped that the experiment will prove the harmful qualities of spam that extend beyond simple annoyance.

Patrick Hayati, Regional Director of McAfee Middle East said: “Spam isn’t just a nuisance. It’s a tool used by cyber criminals to steal personal and business data. And, as scammers become more adept at writing spam in local languages it’s becoming more difficult for Internet users to detect spam. It’s vital that computer users understand the risks of leaving their computers unprotected.”
