Sun Microsystems is seeking to expand its executive headcount in the region, to meet "robust demand" for its data centre and information management solutions.

The company says it is looking for 40 new executives, an increase of 35%, to fill roles in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the next six months. The appointments are part of a plan to double Gulf and Egypt business within three years, with a focus on finance, telecoms, energy and government verticals.

Chris Cornelius, managing director, Sun Microsystems MENA commented: "It's vital that Sun keep pace with the region's appetite for the technology that is fueling the economic growth in the Gulf and elsewhere, and to meet both our targets and those of our customers, we need at least 40 new professionals on board in the first half of 2008.

"From customer-facing sales roles through to technical experts, pre-sales and managerial roles, we are recruiting right through the organization, and launching an internship scheme with a number of universities in the region to cultivate new talent and help stem the shortage of certified IT professionals in the MENA market," he added.

In order to meet its recruitment targets, Sun is working with local recruitment agencies and with recruitment specialists from Sun's European operations.
