BREAKING NEWS :

Acer in the fast lane with Ferrari

By Alex Hawkes on Monday, September 10, 2007

Acer Computer is promoting its latest array of consumer and business notebooks in the TravelMate ProFile, Ferrari and Aspire Gemstone range.

Experiencing a year on year growth of 38.1% during the second quarter of 2007 in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Acer hopes to secure its market position through showcasing the new notebooks' biometric security-enabled features.

"We launched the latest notebooks two months ago and have placed special importance on advertising," says Emanuele Accolla, vice president, Acer EMEA.

"Notebooks speak for themselves - they are convenient and personal compared to a PC. Today, its affordability and enhanced usability makes it more common than its market position three years ago. Now a family may have a communal PC and then each have their own personal notebook."

Acer believes the market rise of its notebook products stems from its quality and affordable price alongside effective distribution by regional partners and a direct customer service approach.

The PC vendor claims to be the only brand in the market with its own customer service directly available to the end user, promising any problems with the product to be repaired within a few days.

Identifying the various purposes which customers use notebooks for, Acer has developed various versions to meet each requirement.

"Every notebook performs a different function for the customer. Some look to the notebooks for aesthetic value and design, others demand added comfort features while some wish for easy-to-use software. We have models designed to match our end users," asserts Accolla.

Acer's recent Ferrari 1000 and 5000 models are designed to combine performance and style through the use of dual-core mobile technology. The smaller shaped 1000 model has a carbon fibre casing and weighs just 1.7 kilos, while the 5000 model features an Acer 1.3 megapixel OrbiCam video camera.

Acer is also showcasing the new version of its TravelMate ProFile design, targeted at business professionals. Featuring a magnesium alloy cover, the design is 20 times stronger combining protection while also minimising weight.

Already experiencing a strong response towards its products at the show, Acer is confident of cementing its position within the Middle East consumer and business IT markets.

"GITEX is a great opportunity for meeting with potential customers. We are particularly experiencing much interest from Egypt and Turkey. A few years ago, only small quantities of notebooks were sold in those regions, but now those markets are booming and we expect other countries to follow," adds Accolla.
