Sanyo Gulf MD Tetsuji Okui says the company is keen to promote ‘green’ initiatives.

Sanyo Gulf is using GITEX Technology Week as a platform to promote its new product development and manufacturing strategy based on environmental sustainability.

Following on from a recent initiative the company launched in Dubai in partnership with EEG (Emirates Environmental Group), which resulted in the recycling of more than two tonnes of used mobile phone batteries, Sanyo is keen to further promote its 'Think GAIA' brand vision at the show.

"The UAE government is increasingly turning its attention to the environment," says Tetsuji Okui, managing director of Sanyo Gulf.

"It has been talking about solar energy and tidal energy and the Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe recently visited Dubai and talked to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum about how Japan can support an environmental sustainability plan in the emirate.

"Sanyo is committed to promoting the cause of environmental sustainability in the Middle East. We will stage a symposium in Dubai on November 4 where will showcase our latest solar panel technologies and provide support to the UAE's environmental initiatives."

Sanyo has unveiled two new camcorders at GITEX Technology Week, both of which employ the firm's Eneloop re-useable, recyclable and rechargeable battery.

"We have introduced the HD2, which is the world's smallest and lightest camcorder, and the CG65 water-proof camera at GITEX," explains Kamil Shah, corporate communications manager for Sanyo Europe.

"Both products employ Eneloop batteries."

The HD2 weighs just 235g and can store 21 minutes of high definition footage per gigabyte of storage. The CG65 waterproof camera can operate at depths of up to 1.5 metres. Shah also reveals the company plans to release the LP-Z2000 home-use projector in the Middle East on November 1.

"We have received a huge number of enquiries about our home-use projector range at this year's show," he claims.

"The short-throw lens-equipped PLC-XL50 projector and the PLC-XF47 projector, which boasts the brightest light-source available on the market, were particular standouts."
