He’s not complaining however — the firm has already sealed a number of landmark outsourcing contracts.

“This is completely out of the box and required a lot of guts to do. In that building, we don’t own the air conditioning. Basically what we are buying are BTUs [British thermal units], so we’re buying energy to cool the air.”

On the other hand, just how far do you want to outsource all the functions in your organisation? As well as its IT needs, Hosam Al-Yousof reveals that the firm he works for, the National Commercial bank (NCB) of Saudi Arabia, has outsourced the chilled water in its air conditioning to a Chinese firm. NCB also intends to outsource its furniture...
 

“The battery operation is very important business for us. We have no intention of quitting it or scaling it down.”


That’s fighting talk from Yutaka Nakagawa, executive deputy president of Sony — especially since the sheer size of the battery recall, close to ten million, has meant the company has had to ask rival manufacturers to lend a hand.
