The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and ekar have jointly launched with 100 car-share vehicles across the Dubai.
The partnership sees ekars parked at easily accessible areas to connect people to each other and to public transportation modes to help take drivers to their intended destination. It allows instant reservations and smart access, whilst providing a network of vehicles for hourly on-demand rental, through the pay-as-you-drive car rental app.
ekars can be booked for a minimum of 10 minutes each day to a maximum of six hours, and once the journey is complete the vehicle can be dropped off either to the original spot or to another designated ekar station for an additional AED6. All ekars are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and MP3.
Vilhelm Hedberg, co-founder & CEO ekar, said: "We observed a problem and went about figuring out how find to a solution and make the joys of driving car just that - joyful! The freedom of driving a car without the hassle of ownership gives our customers the freedom of driving a car when they want."
Half of the ekar fleet is designated around the Dubai Metro stations (Metro Cars) whilst the other half within popular areas of the city (City Cars) including, JLT, Dubai Silicon Oasis, The Green Community and Academic City among others.
