GCC Residential Project of the Year

This award recognises the year’s best residential project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide a comfortable and attractive living environment for residents in the GCC.

GCC Hospitality & Leisure Project of the Year

This award recognises the year’s best hospitality and leisure project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide a excellent facilities, be they hotels,  stadiums or sports centres.

GCC Public Sector, Institutional & Cultural Project of the Year

This award recognises the year’s best public sector project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide an environment that encourages the exploration of cultural themes, or provide a public service for residents in the GCC.

GCC Commercial Project of the Year

This award recognises the year’s best commercial project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects or project designs that provide an excellent working environment for  employees, at the same time making the most of sustainable initiatives in a sector that is traditionally very energy reliant.

Overall Middle East Project of the Year (finished project)

This award recognises the year’s best complete building or structure. With so much of the region’s architecture existing only in the digital realm, nominations for the award should acknowledge those buildings or structures that have made the most architecturally significant leap from sketchbook to built environment. Nominations can range from a single-family home to a large-scale development or supertall tower. Nominated projects must be complete and functional at the time of submission.

Sustainable Design of the Year (concept & finished projects)

This award recognises the year’s most environmentally sensitive project. Nominations for the award should acknowledge projects that most completely embody a commitment to energy-efficiency and environmental responsibility. Nominations can adhere to any of the criteria for any internationally sanctioned (i.e. LEED, BREEAM, Green Star, Estidama etc.) sustainability assessment tools

Boutique Middle East Architecture Firm of the Year (less than 100 employees)

This award recognises those firms with less than 100 employees that have made the most significant  impact on the GCC region through their work in 2010, whether they specialise in traditional or modern architecture, or in villas or skyscrapers. Nominations for the award should demonstrate a large body of work from across the region, and special consideration will be given to firms incorporating unprecedented design, innovative materials, striking forms and eco-friendliness

Large Middle East Architecture Firm of the Year (more than 100 employees)

This award recognises those firms with more than 100 employees that have made the most significant  impact on the GCC region through their work in 2010, whether they specialise in traditional or modern architecture, or in villas or skyscrapers. Nominations for the award should demonstrate a large body of work from across the region, and special consideration will be given to firms incorporating unprecedented design, innovative materials, striking forms and eco-friendliness.

GCC Engineering Company of the Year

This award recognises one of the region’s best engineering practices. Nominations for the award should acknowledge the regional challenges faced in various projects, and the engineering solutions provided. Special consideration will also be given to environmentally-friendly solutions, reduced carbon output and size/scope of projects.

This award recognizes one of the region’s most celebrated and established architects. A demonstrated commitment to dynamic yet feasible design and architecture that harmonises with its surrounding context is essential. Nominations for the award should acknowledge innovation, timelessness, aesthetic significance and inspiration within the architect’s entire body of work. A wealth of projects, both built and designed, will be necessary for consideration.

Young Architect of the Year, Middle East

This award recognizes one of the region’s most promising young architects (under 35) and his/her commitment to strong design, innovative solutions and progressive projects. Nominations for the award should acknowledge the potential within the candidate, not necessarily his/her demonstrated body of work.

Engineer of the Year, Middle East

This award recognizes one of the region’s most celebrated and established engineers. A demonstrated commitment to dynamic yet feasible solutions to the unique engineering challenges of the region is   essential. Nominations for the award should acknowledge innovation, sustainability and inspiration within the engineer’s entire body of work. A wealth of projects, both built and on the boards, will be necessary for consideration.

Principal of the Year, Middle East

This award recognizes one of the region’s best celebrated and established principals. A demonstrated ability to lead in a challenging economic environment is essential, as is a high-level of professionalism and an ability to make the right decisions to push a firm forward in a competitive market. Nominations for the award should acknowledge innovation, leadership and inspiration as well as demonstrating decision-making skills, professionalism and vision.
