Categories of Awards

Supreme Judges Award
The Supreme Judges Award will be assessed from the winners of all the other categories.

Contractor of the Year
The Contractor of the Year will be awarded to a GCC construction company that can demonstrate operational excellence, commercial success and continuous improvement. Client testimonials are welcomed and evidence of commitment to worker welfare, environmental awareness and efficient working practices will also be taken into account. Judges will be looking in particular at nominations from Developers and sub contractors who value the existing or continued levels of excellence received from the contractor

Developer of the Year
Submissions are invited from GCC real estate development companies involved in the construction of residential, commercial or industrial projects. Build quality, aesthetics, timely delivery and evidence of intelligent master-planning will be the main criteria for this award. The incorporation of sustainable construction techniques will also be taken into account. Single or multiple developments can be entered for this category.

Major Project of the Year
Submissions are invited from contractors, consultants, project managers and/or clients for projects valued in excess of US $100 million. Photographic material may also be submitted. The aim of this award is to showcase project-specific construction excellence, demonstrated through examples of exceptional project management and execution.

Project of the year
Submissions are invited from contractors, consultants, project managers and/or clients for projects irrespective of the value of the project. Judges will be looking at how the project demonstrates a uniqueness in approach and how the build demonstrates achievement through the use of technological advancement

Tower Project of the Year
Open to contractors, developers and architects of towers throughout the GCC region, Judges will look for design excellence and construction innovation in the erection of buildings higher than 20 storeys. Practical completion should have been achieved before August 2007.

Concept Tower 2008
Judges will review off-plan projects which will start between August 2008 and August 2009. Projects will be judged on design, innovation in approach and use of sustainable materials.

Sustainable Design Award
Judges will review projects in development for 2008 which are considered to be truly sustainable in design. Special attention will be paid to the design and build of the project. From infrastructure too fit out. The award will go to the team responsible for this achievement and will include Developer, architect and contractor

The Big 5 Gaia Award will provide a showcase platform for leading green products and services. All products and services exhibited at this years’ Big 5 exhibition are eligible to enter the awards.

Corporate Social Responsibility Award
This award will go to the developer / contractor who has the employee and the community at the heart of the project and the management of the organisation. From design of hospitals and municipal buildings to labour camps the winner will have to show how policy is the main driver for change and effective CSR

Health and Safety Award
The Health and Safety award is open both to client and contractor organisations. Submissions should demonstrate practical examples of best practice and/or health and safety-related initiatives. You should demonstrate continuous improvement in the company’s health and safety culture and provide evidence of such.

MEP Contractor of the Year
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors operating in any GCC country are eligible to enter this category. Contractors are asked to provide evidence of exceptional performance within one or more MEP contracts. Examples of savings achieved either through cost or time will be taken into account, as will technical innovation and working practices.

Research and Development Innovation Award
This award is open to contractors, consultants, clients and suppliers that can demonstrate a strong commitment to R&D within their businesses. Innovative construction techniques pioneered by companies operating within the region will also be considered for this category.

Specialist Contract of the Year
This award will go to a contractor that has completed an exceptional specialist project over the course of 2007. Submissions are invited from contractors operating throughout the region. Photographic evidence and client testimonials are also welcomed.

FM Service Provider of the Year
The facilities management contractor of the year will be awarded to a GCC company that can demonstrate quality of delivery and maintenance of a building's facilities, commercial success and continuous improvement alongside the changing needs of a building's design and structure.

Outdoor Design Award
From golf courses to theme parks, outdoor design is more then just that which frames a building – it is a significant architectural feat of engineering that creates space for staff and visitors alike. When activity is a key driver for creating good design ITP and the panel of judges will review how good outdoor design is good for the region and the community it serves.

Engineer Challenge Award
This award will go to the engineering firm that have made visionary design a reality. Judges will be looking at scope of the project, obstacles to design that have been overcome and scale of the project that requires nothing short of an innovative approach.
