Chip vendor AMD's attempts to expand its business in the Middle East region have been strengthened by the success of a recent channel conference in Cairo.

Channel Middle East understands the event - dubbed ‘Roadmap for Year 2007' - attracted more than 350 attendees from across the region. The event - AMD's first major Middle East partner gathering of 2007 - saw the vendor prepare for another year of fierce competition with nemesis Intel by announcing plans to roll out a series of "aggressive" marketing campaigns in the region.

It also educated resellers about its product range in the desktop space and invited a number of motherboard vendors, including Foxconn, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and ECS to share their vision.

AMD has been building up its presence in the Middle East during the past 18 months and explained to partners how it plans to increase its share of the market and strengthen its position in the Egyptian channel this year.

The event in Egypt follows the recent visit of the company's worldwide head of channel marketing development, Felipe Payet, to the region. He outlined AMD's plans to introduce a more structured partner programme.
