From next month IBM will begin offering consumer-style web utilities from Google through its WebSphere portals.

IBM said WebSphere Portal and Portal Express Version 6 customers would be able to choose from nearly 4,000 of the search giant’s Google Gadgets at no extra cost, including language translators, package delivery tracking, podcast search and YouTube.

The vendor said integrating Google Gadgets was one of many steps it was taking to extend WebSphere Portal to create applications with Web 2.0 technologies.

“The delivery of Google Gadgets into a business environment is going to evolve how people work. IBM and Google together can deliver a content-rich user experience to small business and large enterprise,” said Larry Bowden, IBM Lotus vice president of portals and web integration services.
