External storage giant Seagate and chipmaker Marvell have developed an ultra-portable storage device.

The pair announced last week they have collaborated on a wireless multimedia storage device that will allow users to access content on mobile devices via WiFi.

The Seagate Digital Audio Video Experience (Dave) has been designed to fit into a user’s pocket or bag and work with devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, digital video recorders and games consoles.

Dave combines Marvell Semiconductor’s FXA310 applications processor and 88W8686 WLAN technology with Seagate’s hard disk drive (HDD) technology and Storage Management Module (SMM) software.

Sam Arditi, senior vice president of Marvell’s Cellular and Handheld Business Group, said Dave would enable consumers to have instant access to rich multimedia content.

It is expected to go on sale in Q2 of 2007.
