Bahraini operator Batelco has signed an agreement to develop satellite services with ISP SpeedCast.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) covers cooperation in jointly developing, marketing and distributing advanced satellite services that will focus on applications such as corporate private networks, disaster recovery, two-way satellite internet service and video conferencing.

The two companies will also collaborate on developing industry specific solutions such as satellite telecom services for the maritime industry.

The operator said that by offering enhanced satellite services, it could expand its global reach and customer base.

The MoU is an extension of Batelco's development in the satellite communications area, with the operator recently renovating its telelink and deploying a hub and international gateway to enable it to expand its advanced satellite-based internet protocol (IP) services in the region.

Batelco currently offers satellite services to organisations in the kingdom.
