Mobile operator Telenor Pakistan has picked Huawei to build a fibre optics communications network.

The contract is an extension of the two companies' existing relationship and will see Huawei construct a IP-based dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network.

DWDM is a technology that puts data from different sources together on an optical fibre with each signal carried at the same time on their own separate light wavelength.

"We have selected a solution that meets the requirements of our rapid growth and smooth business development and ensures a continued evolution of our network," said Telenor Pakistan chief technical officer Peter Anthony Dindial.

Ding Shaohua, senior vice president of Huawei, added: "The successful collaboration of the two firms will be providing the world-class technologies and services to the consumers of Pakistan and this reaffirms Huawei's position as the world-leading transport network supplier."
