Cognos has won a deal to supply a business intelligence (BI) solution to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, IT Weekly can exclusively reveal.

The software vendor is to supply online analytical process (OLAP) and corporate performance management (CPM) capabilities for ad-query, reporting and analysis to the Saudi Arabian university.

"Cognos 8 will play an instrumental role in providing an enabling framework to make the university a strategy-focused organisation and implement performance measurement systems," commented Iftikhar Nadeem, advisor on information strategy at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.

The Saudi Arabian market is a major focus for Cognos this year, according to Derek Morrison, the firm's regional general manager. In a recent interview with IT Weekly, Morrison revealed the company is currently negotiating with a number of partners in the Kingdom in a bid to increase its presence in the market - a key element of its regional growth strategy.
