Oracle customers will be able to choose when they upgrade to Fusion applications, the firm said, following its release of new versions of all its product lines.

This month saw the software giant introduce new versions of Oracle E-Business Suite (Release 12), PeopleSoft Enterprise, Siebel CRM, and JD Edwards Enterprise-One and OneWorld software suites. The launch follows on from Oracle’s pledge last year to give lifetime support to all its customers and continue to deliver new product releases, released under the ‘Applications Unlimited’ programme.

While Oracle’s stated plan to launch its Fusion Applications suite in 2008 had led to fears that it would stop delivering on new versions of the products it acquired through acquisition, Oracle president Charles Phillips said the applications launch proved this was not the case.

“These releases are proof that Oracle is delivering on its strategy to protect and extend customers’ current investments in Oracle’s leading horizontal, specialty and industry suites,” he said. “Additionally, with the ‘Applications Unlimited’ programme, Oracle is providing best-in-class infrastructure technology that delivers next-generation capabilities today, and we are giving our customers the choice as to when they upgrade without having to re-license their applications.”

E-Business Suite 12 is the first major release of the software for six years. While many users saw upgrading to E-Business Suite 11i as a challenging move, Oracle has stated that Release 12 will have tighter integration with other Oracle products.
