Software firm Novell is to set up an Open Source Lab at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi.

The vendor signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the university on the development of the lab following a visit this week by Novell EMEA president Volker Smid to the UAE, where he met with the minister of education Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

Gerard McDonnell, director Novell Middle East told IT Weekly the objective of the lab was to help young people develop their awareness and technical knowledge with open source technology.

The building of the lab should be finished by early April, McDonnell said.
