Power cable manufacturer Oman Cables has rolled out a Baan ERP system from Infor to help reduce inventory costs and improve efficiency.

The firm said it decided on the Baan solution because it was commonly used by cabling companies around the world.

“We shortlisted four or five [other ERP systems], but used a different approach for selection,” said Sajid Ali, IT manager at Oman Cables. “Because our main concern was the manufacturing area we went and found out what the other cable companies are using around the world and we found the majority of them are using the Baan package that we have selected and they are successful using it and they are happy about it, as well as [with] the support.”

Benefits of the system, according to Oman Cables, include greater transparency and better customer compliance and satisfaction.

“We have already seen some key benefits in terms of data transparency aiding better decision making.

However, we expect even bigger gains as we bring our manufacturing processes under the Infor technology. We anticipate significant reductions in inventory and scrap generation,” said Hussain Salman, Oman Cables vice chairman and managing director.
