Microsoft has confirmed that all versions of its Vista operating system (OS) will be shipped on a single DVD, in a feature called Windows Anytime Upgrade. Customers will be able to upgrade to a higher edition of Vista from within their current edition more easily, the firm claimed.

Vista, the next-generation of Microsoft’s Windows OS, is scheduled for release next January.

Users would be installing only the version of the OS that they had purchased, as the product key would be version-specific. Versions range from Starter to Ultimate editions.

Microsoft declined to commenton whether this system meant that it wouldbe cheaper to upgrade between different versions of the Windows OS.
