The UAE's recently launched second telecoms operator, du, has unveiled its audited 2006 fourth quarter and full year 2006 financial results.

The figures showed a net pre-operating cost of AED 280.3 million for the quarter to 31 December 2006, bringing total net pre-operating costs for the period from 28 December, 2005 to 31 December, 2006 to AED 608.9 million.

The Board of Directors of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) convened to formerly approve the financial results.

du's Chairman, Ahmed Bin Byat, said: "Over the past year there has been significant investments made in building the infrastructure of the company particularly in world class networks and IT systems.

"In addition to investing heavily in rolling out our infrastructure we have been recruiting, building our operational capabilities and more importantly developing our human capital which will be responsible for delivering our commitment to excellent customer service," he added.

du's CEO, Osman Sultan, said "du is breathing new life into the UAE telecoms market with a very attractive offering that provides customers with optimum value and convenience."

The results come as du commences its roll out of the mobile telephone services across the UAE.

"This is an exciting time for du - telecommunications in the UAE is on the verge of a new era of competition," continued Sultan. "The positive results from the Number Booking Campaign demonstrated the UAE's true desire for a choice of telecommunications provider, and we look forward to welcoming even more customers to du during 2007."

At the start of this month du announced its products, services and tariff plans and from 11 February it launched its services by allowing customers to pay online and confirm their du numbers, booked during the 055 Number Booking campaign.

Starting 25 February, du will have a significant presence in all seven Emirates through 9 wholly owned du shops and kiosks, 90 premium dealers and over 1000 other points of sale.
