Iraqi-based telecommunications services provider Moutiny has selected Tecore Wireless Systems to speed up deployment of its service network infrastructure in Iraq.

Tecore is deploying a large-scale internet protocol (IP) based turnkey code-division multiple access (CDMA) wireless local loop network for the Iraqi-based firm.

The network will initially support 200,000 subscribers in a ten-city region in Iraq, but the company said growth was quickly expected to reach over a million.

In a statement announcing the deal, Moutiny, a trade name of VitalTel, said it selected Tecore in order to accelerate deployment of the infrastructure needed to provide essential basic fixed telephone and internet services in the country.

It said it expected to launch the services in multiple provinces in Iraq next month.

Moutiny started its deployment preparation at the end of last year with a view to providing fixed wireless voice, data, internet and value-added services in the country.

The company said that so far it has been deploying its WLL network mainly in the central and southern regions of Iraq.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tecore will provide all core network and radio access systems, microwave interconnectivity, integration with satellite communications systems, overall project management, and deployment services.

“This leading-edge wireless local loop deployment demonstrates Tecore’s excellence in rapidly integrating and deploying all-IP CDMA networks,” said Neal Calanni, vice president of marketing and product strategy at Tecore.

“Tecore’s SoftMSC-based core network allows operators to leverage the latest IP technologies, including session initiation protocol (SIP) and other emerging IP-based services, to optimise network operations and reduce capital and operating expenditures,” he added.

Tecore said that the solution provided for Moutiny brings together a number of its latest product innovations, including its Linux-based SoftMSCSystem, enhanced high-capacity/ high availability HLR, intergrated media gateways, integrated SIP proxy server, messaging, voicemail and prepaid services.
