Tarek Ghoul, North Gulf manager at networking giant Cisco, has urged companies operating in the dynamic oil and gas sector to focus on the business benefits that new technology offers them.

As part of the Kuwait Oil Company's second IT group exhibition in Kuwait, Ghoul extolled the virtues of transformation to internet protocol (IP) based next generation networks.

"Technology is an enabler and can provide fundamental improvements for organisations operating in the oil and gas sector by delivering an experience that has a direct impact on enhancing operational efficiency, optimising cost structures and boosting overall business agility," explained Ghoul.

Ghoul claimed that the oil and gas sector remains one of the most dynamic market segments, increasing the need for agile and flexible IT systems.

Converged IP networks, which carry voice, video and data on the same network, optimise available bandwidth to ensure business continuity and reliable availability of information and applications across an entire enterprise, according to Cisco.
